Quantitative evaluation of visual guidance effects for 360-degree directions

Abstract A head-mounted display cannot cover an angle of visual field as wide that natural view (out-of-view problem). To enhance the cognition immersive environment, previous studies have developed various guidance designs visualize location or direction items presented in users’ surroundings. However, two issues regarding effects remain unresolved: How are different with each guided direction? much is cognitive load required by guidance? investigate issues, we performed a search task environment and measured time target spent to recognize design. In this task, participants searched for on reported color while using The (a moving window, 3D arrow, radiation, spherical gradation, radar) directions were manipulated. times showed interaction effect between directions, e.g., arrow radar shorten targets at back users. recognition short details window radiation but long radar. These results suggest effective respect load, guiding attention necessary out-of-view.
